On July 27th, the third vessel of the world's largest 24,111 TEU-class ultra-large container ship series, named "MSC METTE," was delivered and named jointly by Jiangnan Shipyard, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. for Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The ship was designed by China Shipbuilding Hudong-Zhonghua and classed by DNV. It has a total length of 399.99 meters, a beam of 61.5 meters, and a depth of 33.2 meters, with a deck area equivalent to nearly four standard football fields. It has a maximum stack capacity of 25 layers, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building, and can carry 24,116 containers. This makes it the largest container ship in terms of container capacity in the world. The vessel is equipped with a hybrid scrubber desulfurization system and features unique design elements such as a small bulbous bow, large-diameter propeller, and energy-saving ducts. Additionally, it adopts a bubble friction reduction system, which not only effectively reduces the total energy consumption of the ship but also cuts down carbon emissions by 3%-4%, resulting in a reduction of over 6,000 tons annually. Moreover, it is the first ship to utilize a shaft generator system, which significantly reduces fuel consumption, optimizes fuel efficiency, and reduces the ship's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), consequently lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
